Poirot is a detective series penned by the famous Agatha Christie in her series of books that have been transformed into this TV series which has quite adeptly stayed true to the stories in the books.

Shot from 1989 to 2013, in the UK, the series follows the story of Hercule Poirot (an emigrant from Belgium). A former police detective, and now a private detective, Poirot, is brilliantly portrayed by David Suchet.

My favourite part of this series is that, much like the books, the plot of every story keeps me on my toes, constantly guessing who the perpetrator of the crime might be and most often my guess is proved wrong, which is thoroughly enjoyable for me!

There are times however when the pace of the series is either too fast for me (a native Russian speaker) to keep up with or slows down a bit too much for my liking.

For me, nearly every episode throws up surprises which make me suspect my prejudices! Every time I decide on a criminal based on the situation, dialogues and personality, I am proved wrong. Perhaps a learning for me with this series is to never judge a book by its cover!

I recommend this series for a long holiday weekend with some popcorn for anyone who is looking to binge watch a detective series and isn’t looking for continuity of story from one episode to another.

I know I was hooked from the very start as this series brings the character of Poirot from the books alive for me and I couldn’t stop until I reached season 13. Happy Watching!
