As a teenager who’s into detective stories and smart TV shows, Elementary really surprised me in a good way. It’s a modern take on Sherlock Holmes, set in New York instead of London, which already makes it feel more relatable. The twist is that Dr. Watson is a woman—Joan Watson, played by Lucy Liu—and honestly, she’s one of my favorite characters. She's smart, calm, and actually feels like a real person with her own goals and growth, not just Sherlock’s sidekick.
Jonny Lee Miller plays Sherlock, and he’s not your typical genius detective. He’s kind of a mess—recovering from addiction, socially awkward, and really intense—but that’s what makes him interesting. You get to see how brilliant he is, but also how broken, and that makes the show more than just solving mysteries. It’s also about friendship, trust, and trying to become a better person.
The cases are cool too. Some episodes are classic murder mysteries, others are more complex, like hacking or big conspiracies. It keeps things fresh, and I actually learn random facts that end up being useful in class sometimes.
What I really liked was the character development. Sherlock and Watson grow so much over the seasons, and their relationship becomes this strong partnership based on respect. It’s not romantic, which is rare and honestly refreshing.
Overall, Elementary is smart, emotional, and just fun to watch. If you’re into clever mysteries and character-driven stories, it’s totally worth checking out.
