The Australian series was shot in 2006-2010, designed mainly for a teenage audience. 

H2O: Just add water is the series is about three girls who turn into mermaids and their journey through the perils of being human but also mermaid. The series is talking about main characters Emma, Ricky and Cleo who became mermaids in a mysterious moon pond in the vent of an extinct volcano. The series explores the relationship these girls have with their close friend Lewis who faithfully protects their secret and also protects them from water. Any contact with water instantly changes the girls into mermaids

My favourite part of this series is its mysterious, magical atmosphere and summer vibe.The costumes for the show are well conceptualized to depict the early 2000s, creating a sense of nostalgia of the recent past. In the midst of the magic that pervades the series, the writers explore typicall issues faced by teenagers such as relationships with parents, family, friendship, relationships with boys, etc.

I did find that there were a couple of episodes per season that could’ve been avoided but all in all, the story kept me gripped and coming back for more, season after season.

In particular, the second season made a departure from focussing on the magic and focussed on a love story which was a well crafted love triangle.

The writers have skillfully written Charlotta’s character to be decidedly annoying, creating the required friction between characters to keep the story interesting and the viewers waiting for her final fall from grace! I recommend watching this series during the summer holidays to recharge the vibe and atmosphere of summer. I also highly recommend watching it to those people who love mermaids, especially teenagers.
